Raggedy Friends

“To the world you may be just one person,
but to one person you may be the world.”
~Brandi Snyder

Much of the vitality in a friendship lies in the honouring of differences,
not simply in the enjoyment of similarities.”

“One measure of friendship consists not in the number of things friends can discuss,
but in the number of things they need no longer mention.”
~Clifton Fadiman

"true friendship isn't about being there when it's convenient;
it's about being there when it's not.”

Taking a moment to share just a few of my new friends!

Can anyone tell me why I have fuzziness in the
lower right corner of my photos, and is it repairable?
grrrrr!
Always something!

My new Singer Featherweight 221

I arrived home one day last week to find this case on the floor.
My boyfriend said "It's for you from John".
He heard that my machine went in for repair,
and I was shopping for an inexpensive machine
to use for my mixed media/journal projects.

I understand his wife passed away in 2003.
I can picture her smiling now, as the machine
has obviously been stored somewhere "musty".
I couldn't believe my eyes when I opened the case.
It's darling!
I will cherish this vintage beauty.

I set it up today for the first time.
The instructions in the booklet were easy to follow.
It sews like a charm.
The bulb quickly got very hot (which makes me
wonder if the right type is in it).

I decided to google this machine to learn more about it.
One thing is for sure,
they don't make sewing machines like they used to.
This is one well-built machine.
I'm thanking my lucky stars~!
Thank you John!
You are a sweetheart.

Diary 2011 Project

I love this concept.
Artists contribute black and white images of their work
and it is published in this cool diary format.
You can order a published copy,
or a CD format to print your own.
Downloads are also available for the 3 prior years.
A list of all participants is provided,
and if you "blog it" you are added to the link list.
It's all good!

Water colors and chart markers

When I first got my Chart Markers,
I wasn't sure how to deal with the "bleeding" issue.
By accident, after base coating a water color page
in my journal with an accrylic wash,
I tested the markers.

If I'm careful, they don't bleed!
Yay!!!

So now I'm hooked on my new watercolor set.
I bounce back and forth with my wc crayons as well,
but this set is soooo darn cool.

Notice the paper.
I purchased a stack of newsprint from Staples,
and intend to incorporate it into my journals.
I can't help sprying a little Glimmer Mist
here and there to add that little BAM factor.

So today I have a million daffodil bulbs to plant.
May as well get it over with so I can come back in to play.

***

Recently I caved in, and signed up for the
Remains of the Day class offered by
the most brilliant Mary Ann Moss.

I have been addicted to online courses in the
last year, and why I waited so long for this one,
I do not know, but it has climbed to
the TOP of my favorites list.

After joining the yahoo group for ROD,
I got my first digest e-mail, and
began surfing the links and today was my lucky day.

I discovered this beautiful site.
Just reading and enjoying her eye candy photos
sent me into a tail spin.
It was the shot in the arm I have been
looking for these past few weeks.

Her art is contagious that's all I can say.
Soooo that lead me to making a decision I have
been stewing over all weekend.

Last week my sewing machine became sick.
I brought it in to be diagnosed, and I have been
impatiently waiting for the outcome.

All weekend I have been talking myself in and out of
purchasing and inexpensive machine to sew on paper etc....
After visiting Susie Lafond's site, I decided.

Today I'm buying a new sewing machine.  But not before getting
"Sammy Scramble" for breakfast.  (my favorite!)
My sweetie scrambles eggs with sausage, peppers, onions
and cheese, and named it after me.
He's pounding on the ceiling, so I better go......
Have a great day!

Another Angel Painting

Lately I have been having a hard time focusing on creating.

I can't concentrate if I have too many things to do.

So today I decided to chill out...
I put a pot roast in the crock pot,
and cleaned out my closet, and drawers.
I needed to purge, and it took a while.
By the time I was done,
I really felt like creating....

I was in the mood to paint an angel...
From the beginning, I just worked without thinking about it.
I grabbed random colors,
pulled a page out of my music sheet book,
and voila!
Kind of got my juices flowing....
maybe tomorrow I'll give it another shot!

Postcards, Paint and Orphan Annies

I have been so bad about blogging of late,
due to distractions, obligations, and actually some creating.

I'm so excited to have a long 3-day weekend to PLAY!.
Yesterday, I played with painting card stock paper
with ink sprays and golden paints.
Glimmer Mist is my new favorite spray!!!

I also experimented with making paper out
of recycled "shower" paper and tissue.
That's right, at my cousin's wedding shower,
I shamelessly asked if I could have the bag
of paper headed for the trash.....
They thought I was nuts {big grin}.

Just using scrap envelopes, some wrapping paper with pink roses,
glitter, and pink and/or red tissue paper,
I made different shades of yummy pink paper.
I used a small amount of sparkly silver paper in some batches,
and it created such pretty twinkly flecks.
No batch was alike, and I made about 15 batches of 2.

Recently I found this old books store,
with tons of vintage post cards.
I bought a bunch, and created these
whimsical sentiment creations, by adding
sewing stitches, typed words, varnish and embellished
with beads, charms and and wire.
I decoupaged a post card on each these 2 cigar boxes,
added wooden balls for the feet,
and lined the insides with wallpaper.

I used some of the postcards to make small note pads.
Last week I stopped back at the books store and they
went out of business!
Bummer!!!
I thought I had found a good source for postcards!

Today I will make dresses for my Orphan Annie dolls
using leftover scraps. Last weekend I whipped up 20 dolls
for my upcoming craft fair in November.

Frankly I've been obsessing and stressing over this fair.
So I feel better that I have taken some time to create.
I'll spend the rest of this weekend, finishing my dolls,
and making interesting paper for journals I hope to make.

On that note....time to get back to playing.

I hope you are having a great weekend as well!
Ciao!
