Baby Rachel's Legacy
This is a heart breaking story....a reminder to me how fragile life can be; a reminder to cherish more; realize my blessings, and be more aware of others. My prayers and thoughts are with Rachel's family....

ONE Million Pillowcases
This morning while checking my e-mails, I became curious about one specific e-mail from Etsy. It was about a project challenge to make One Million pillowcases. Etsy featured a young lady named Sarah with Downs Syndrome, who wanted to participate by making a pillowcase for her friend battling cancer. This very poignant story reduced me to tears. Her friend lost her battle after receiving her gift.
I am so touched by the possibility of making something that requires little time or money, that can maybe make a huge difference in someone's life. Especially during this time of year, with the holidays fast approaching.
You will find many organizations that are participating in this challenge, as well as obtain free patterns to make several styles of pillowcases. There is even a brief video and a PDF of instructions, showing you a very cool tip on making very professional edges using a "roll-it-up" method, and french seams.

Amazon Wish List Widget
I LOVE buying books, but my pocket book has a limit.
Soooo....when I'm browsing Amazon and I find a book I absolutely have-to-have,
(but can't afford just yet),
I add it to my "wish list".
If you have an account with Amazon,
your wish list remains there until you are ready to purchase
your item that you placed in your list.
How about posting your wish list on your site,
just in case someone wants to purchase that something
special for Christmas or your birthday?
Even better, if you post this widget on your site,
Amazon will compensate you!
You can elect gift card,
debit to your account
or payment by check (fee imposed on this option).
You must first create an "associate" account with Amazon.
This is just a technicality so Amazon can obtain
your tax id information which is standard procedure
in the accounting world when you make payment(s) to an individual or entity.
Amazon wants a little info about your blog/site,
which isn't a lot to ask.
Finish your questionaire, and presto,
you have the code to add to your blog/site.
Easy-Peasy and just in time for holiday shoppers.
Click on the bottom of my widget to learn more.
Or you can check out my personal wish list,
and give me some points towards a gift card.
Pretty Clever!

Pumpkin / Snowman do-over
Yesterday, I had a very productive day.
Some serious housework all morning
then work in the yard putting
all the garden ornaments away.
It was such a good weather bonus-kind-of-day.
I even had the windows open for fresh air.
Later in the evening, we had plans to
catch the fabulous Johnny A
at the Blue Ocean in Salisbury.
Check out this link to see him play OH YEAH.
So I had a little time to kill,
and decided to work on this make-do;
which was truly a "do" OVER.
He originally was a scary pumpkin,
and he's been hanging around too long.
So I tore off his scarf;
tweaked his attitude a bit;
and painted him into a snowman.
It was a little hard painting his face
because the surface was very rough,
so I'm still not sure if I'm done.
Yeah, this look didn't cut it.
I definitely like him better as a snowman.
But maybe I should leave well enough alone.
Today looks like it will be a bit cooler.
Don't know if I will get any crafting in....
Family and friends coming over for a little celebration.
I'm making a Spice Bundt cake,
Artichoke dip,
and 2 calzones; a BBQ Chicken,
and a combo Luncheon meats
with broccoli, fried peppers & cheese.
Have a great day~!

Mixed Media Sentiment Cards
It was fun working on these cards today.
Mindless, listening to soft music, random.
I love sewing on paper,
and I REALLY love my eyelet setter tool.
Tomorrow my son turns 26, and besides celebrating
his birthday we are now celebrating his new title;
"Captain"....hee hee.
He PASSED his exam today,
and I am so proud of him.
I love you Ty....
Yesterday you were my little peanut,
and now I look up to a "captain",
in the blink of an eye.
It's bittersweet knowing you'll be leaving soon
to go back to the islands to charter boats.
Blizzard Babies
I recently ordered a back issue of Cloth Paper Scissors
(November/December 2008)
I was interested in learning more about
Elizabeth St. Hilaire Nelson
(more about her in upcoming post)
Gracing the cover of this magazine were
these sparkling snowmen by Sue Pelletier.
The more I studied these little snowmen,
I gradually reazlized I had ALL the supplies
on hand to try my hand making them myself.
Then, coincidentally, Creative Workshops
offered a workshop from Sue herself.
Very few folks actually know this about me,
but I am a "workshop junkie".
Added to my snowmen weakness,
it didn't take long for me to decided to signed up.
I think Sue Pelletier is one clever gal.
Her workshop offered a tad more details
about the supplies, and the visual aid
is a big plus for me.
I found these rhinestone buckles that I
added pearl buttons to.
I used crepe paper for the ruffles, and the 2 little
snowmen are a pair of salt and pepper shakers.
Naturally I saved the caps for their hats.
Too cute don't you think?
Did you remember to "fall back"?
